5th European Equality Summit

This annual European Equality Summit has the objective of promoting the idea of equality in the European Union. The Summit, scheduled at Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie on 14th and 15th November, will be accompanied by an informal meeting of EU ministers tasked with the implementation of equality policies and countering discrimination in all its forms

‘At the Summit, representatives of all the European countries will exchange observations about the relevant European laws and will share good practices on ways of optimising equality policies in every sphere of life and at every level’, said Government Plenipotentiary for Equal Treatment Elżbieta Radziszewska during a pre-summit press conference.

The ministers are expected to adopt the Poznań Declaration in support of broader dialogue with NGOs for the purpose of enhancing the implementation of equality policies and boosting anti-discrimination efforts.

The theme of The 5thEuropean Equality Summit is ‘Implementation of Equality Policies at the Local and Regional Level’. That level of activity is crucial in the struggle against discrimination and the promotion of equality. It is there that national policies and programmes are put into practice; it is there that groups experiencing inequality organise themselves and voice their needs. It is the local and regional level where the ideas of social advancement and change take root and develop.

The 5th European Equality Summit will bring together some 260 official representatives of EU Member States, candidate countries, EEA states, international organisations, senior NGO officers, social partners (employers and trades unions), institutions concerned with equality issues and members of the civil society.
